Tea

I dislike pretty much everything about coffee. I think the smell is sour and the taste is bitter. Even the color turns me off. In result of of my disgust for the popular drink, I drink a lot of tea. On days when I have to head straight from practice to class, I drink about 5 cups of tea.

According to Dr.Laura Klein, Ph.D it only takes about 10 minutes for caffeine to have an effect on the body. Caffeine causes the body to release hormones that boost the heart rate and blood pressure. In one 8 oz cup of tea, there are 14-61 mg of caffeine. In an 8 oz cup of coffee there's a minimum of 95 mg.

A study by the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that people who drank four cups of coffee every day were 30% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Tea also as proven health benefits, especially green tea. Green tea has EGCG which is an antioxidant that recharges the white blood cells and prevents viruses from reactivating.

People have linked the word coffee with energy. A study by British researches served decaf coffee to regular coffee drinkers. They scored the same on puzzle tests as caffeinated coffee drinkers. After drinking coffee, people expect to have a boost. Tea has been linked to calming the nerves. Especially jasmine and lavender tea which have very calming effects. A study published by the European Journal of Applied Physiology showed that tea drinkers heart rates were slowed by simply smelling jasmine and lavender tea.
